Sunset is my favorite time of the day because of the beautiful light. All too often photographers will try to capture the sunset by being directly facing the sun. I'm trying to capture something different, I wanted to be in a place where the sunset creates an unexpected condition. This day/location worked out perfectly. The sun was setting far off on the other side of the island creating a beautiful dramatic smooth transition from day to night. This image is all about capturing the moment between day and night. It lasts for a brief few minutes but provides a lot of lighting drama.

The image is composed of a three different long exposures of 102 seconds each. I decided to make this a pano for a couple reasons. First, is to let me capture an extremely wide field of view, creating a great sense of vast open space and plenty of canvas to capture the colors of the sunset. Secondly, and what I think makes this an interesting image is the length of exposure time. Each exposure was 102 seconds or 1:42 mins. This is important because I wanted to capture that in between transition from day to night. Using 3 different exposure allowed the total exposure time to be just over 5 mins. Spreading the time from right to left each exposure captured that transition
