My pension towards minimalism is very apparent in this image. I love boiling down images and try to capture the essence of what I’m seeing and feeling. Keeping the focus on the sign against the moving water created that serenity that I love about the vast ocean surrounding us.
Ocean-based themes helped me first realize the ability of photography to act as a translator of my visions. Early on, in my pursuit into photography, I desperately struggled to find my voice in artistic expression. Through the discovery of the transformative nature of long exposure photography and ocean-based themes, I realized that photography had the ability to act as fine art. Manipulation of time and light (ie long exposures) brought a whole new insight on how to use photography to add intention into my work. With my new found abilities, rather than just simply recording the scene, I now was able to control the outcome to some degree and add intention into what the camera was capturing. Ocean themes were the perfect place to experiment with this new realization and much of my work has stemmed from this pursuit. Seascapes probably will always be a part of my work in one way or another for this reason.
