My pension towards minimalism is very apparent in this image. I love boiling down image and try to capture the essence of what I’m seeing and feeling. Keeping the focus on the sign against the moving water created that serenity that I love about the vast ocean surrounding us.

It was a very windy and choppy day when this was taken. I only need 39 seconds to get the water and wind to create the streaks of blue and have the clouds disappear.

This is from my 1st outing with my the Nikon D800E.The channel markers are a favorite subject of of mine so I went to my a favor spot of mine where I know there is almost always a good picture to be had. This image just pop right out of the camera when I saw it. The clouds and lighting where just perfect. And the water has just the right amount of texture

Song Birds

Song Birds

Every time I drive up and back to Key West I see the utility poles and wonder how can I capture them. They are ever present in the keys, making their presence know all the way down to Key West. I got the vision when crossing this bridge and saw the birds hanging out. I love the randomness of them and how they didn't move. This particular exposure was 10 mins. 30 seconds long, my longest to date, due to the rapid loss of light just after the sun had set.

Miami Beach Sunset

Miami Beach Sunset

I took this right in front of the Fontainebleau Hotel. The sun was setting behind the buildings but it was lighting up the sky with these amazing colors. As the sun set behind me and below the horizon the light reflecting off the sky turned the choppy waters into a beautiful milky turquoise, creating an almost glowing like feeling. It was quite a sight to see. I wanted to capture the color changing range of colors that were being created right in front of me. Using an extremely long exposure allow me to let mother nature do the work, but only giving me one shot to do so. Lucky my exposure time was right on. Extreme long exposures are a pure guessing game when it come time to chose how long the exposure is.

Old Naples Pier

Old Naples Pier

I believe these are the remains of the Old Naples Pier. I have been wanting to get out here for some time now, and I finally made it. Lots of people running around and in the way made difficult to shoot here and was very frustrating! Also the lighting condition were tough. The was a huge range of light, so I decided to do some HDR with some stacking. I shot 3 images and each exposure.

Sundown at Maho

Sundown at Maho

This has to be one on the most idyllic beaches I have ever been to. The place is just stunning. My wife and I had found a spot here in the late afternoon to watch the sun go down and take in the beauty. The bay is so beautiful that I want to give it an almost a religious like interpretation so I had her stand out in the water to give it that sense of drama and contemplation. The long exposure did the rest.

The blue tone came from the uses of the filter. While I normal can correct the color shift from the filter, this one I couldn’t. It happily ended up working but most my long exposures on this trip were not successful because of this.

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

Exploring the night in the Florida Keys, I decide to stop at the base of the old Seven Mile Bridge around 10:30pm, On a very dark and cloudy night. Fishing is a popular at this location, so I waited for a bit for a boat to get into the just the right position and fired off several shots in hopes of capturing something really different than is normally taken here. The streaks of light in the distance are the boat moving in the fast current. On a side note, while taking this shot I had a 3 or 4 foot snake slither between my legs! Almost ruining the shot. Lucky I didn’t move and it slithered on by.

Seven Mile Sunset

Seven Mile Sunset

The Old Seven Mile Bridge is very iconic attraction in the Florida Keys. Stunning sunset are a big attraction here and this is my attempt at capturing one. I waited until the sun had set below the horizon in order to get the beautiful afterglow that comes. The sky turned into amazing yellows and oranges for just minutes before day turned into night. A short 3 second exposure is all I need to capture this beautiful moment.

On a historic note the railings which are so prominently feature here are the old railway tracks from the Flagler Railway.

This is the beginning of a new series where I will be documenting the Miami Beach lifeguard stations. I will try to capture and process them in similar fashion in order to objectify them as much as possible. These are a very popular subject for photographers so I hope I can bring a new take to this subject through the use of my technique with long exposure.
